Iraq Launches Plan to Boost the Private Sector Across 19 Economic Sectors

Iraq has announced a comprehensive national program aimed at expanding the role of the private sector across 19 key economic sectors, as part of broader efforts to diversify and strengthen the country’s economy.

Legal Reforms and Institutional Framework

Abdullah Al-Jubouri, Deputy Head of the council, said the plan focuses on reforming legislation governing the private sector, while establishing a unified institutional framework to support productive and service-based industries.

He noted that the council, formed this year with UN support, seeks to drive a structural shift in Iraq’s business environment, moving away from past economic models toward a system that relies on partnership with the private sector.

Institutional Transition and Implementation

Al-Jubouri added that preparations are underway to launch a new economic entity backed by the council, which will officially become the Supreme Council for the Iraqi Private Sector, tasked with coordinating policies and advancing growth-oriented initiatives.

He emphasized that the coming months will mark the start of effective implementation, aiming to stimulate investment, create jobs, and enhance long-term economic sustainability in Iraq.
