Khor Mor Attack Halts Gas Supplies and Hits Power Generation in Kurdistan

A drone attack targeting the Khor Mor gas field in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region has led to a complete halt in gas supplies to power generation plants, causing widespread disruption to the electricity system.

Authorities confirmed that Khor Mor was temporarily taken offline following the strike.

The Ministries of Natural Resources and Electricity announced the suspension of gas deliveries to power stations immediately after the attack, while launching a joint investigation in coordination with Dana Gas, the field’s operator, to assess damages and restore output.

Officials stressed that Khor Mor is a critical source for electricity generation, amplifying the impact of the shutdown.

Security sources said the attack ignited a fire in one of the field’s main storage tanks, though no injuries were reported among workers.

Production was halted as a precautionary measure to extinguish the fire and secure facilities.

A spokesperson for the electricity ministry noted that around 80% of power supplies were affected due to the disruption at Khor Mor.

The incident is part of a broader pattern of drone attacks that have targeted oil and gas infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region this year, previously disrupting significant volumes of oil production and inflicting substantial financial losses.

Authorities continue investigations to identify those responsible and prevent further attacks.
