Diyala Loses 400 Megawatts of Electricity After Power Station Fire

Diyala loses 400 megawatts of its electricity supply after a major fire broke out at a power station in eastern Iraq, leading to a sharp decline in power supply hours across the province.

A local source said that Diyala loses 400 megawatts of incoming electricity after the blaze damaged power transformers at the 400 kV station, significantly affecting the stability of the local power grid.

The fire erupted early in the morning at the Diyala 400 kV transmission substation, operated by the Directorate of Electricity Transmission Networks, resulting in substantial energy losses.

This incident adds further pressure on the province’s electricity sector, as Diyala loses 400 megawatts that account for a significant portion of daily demand, particularly during peak consumption periods.

Authorities are currently assessing the damage and carrying out emergency repairs to restore operations, while concerns persist over prolonged power shortages if maintenance efforts are delayed.
